Inspirations and Improvisations

Solo Piano Concert May 5, 2013

The Gateway Arts Foundation presents award-winning Canadian jazz pianist and composer Alex Clements who will be performing an afternoon of original piano music from his solo CD Emily's Song as well as arrangements of Gershwin and Michel Legrand. This is a rare opportunity to hear Clements up close and personal in an intimate solo piano setting. Clements is known for his dynamic, virtuosic improvisations in the tradition of Keith Jarrett's solo piano concerts.

Clements has dazzled audiences around the world and most recently with his Latin jazz sextet at the Starbright Theatre featuring his music ranging from fun and sprightly to emotional and lyrical. Clements performances demonstrate a kaleidoscope of influences from Classical, jazz, Latin, World, Gospel, and Pop. He currently performs five nights a week with Cirque du Soleil's 'O'. Clements has performed at numerous jazz festivals including the Montreal International Jazz Festival. His talent and dedication brought him to the concert halls in Paris where he competed twice in the Martial Solal International Jazz Piano Competition. One of Clements’ highest accomplishments is an Alberta Achievement Award, which was presented to him by the Government of Alberta.
